How it goes

Four stops, one painting, about two and a half hours.

    Arrive at the barn

    Check in at Ocean View Stables and take your seat in the barn aisle, with horses watching from their stalls. Our team offers a short walk-through of the stables first, if you would like one.

    Find your canvas

    Your canvas, brushes, paints and apron are set out and waiting. Open whatever you brought to drink. We have cups and openers.

    Follow the artist

    A local artist paints the piece one step at a time and the room follows along. Go at your own pace, ask for help, change the colors.

    Take it home

    Hold your canvas up for the group photo at the end, then carry it out with you. It is yours to keep.

The inspiration

Paint the place you are sitting in.

Paintings take their cue from the coast and the horses around you: a sunset over the Pacific, a horse running through the surf, the barn at golden hour.

The artist breaks each one into simple steps, so the canvas you carry out looks like the place you painted it.

The setting

A working stable on the coast.

Sessions are held at Ocean View Stables in Daly City, just south of San Francisco. We set up in the long barn aisle, so you paint with the horses close by.

The Painted Trail hosts its sessions at Ocean View Stables. Riding is not part of a session.

No. The artist shows each step and comes around to help, and nobody is grading anyone.

Yes. Sessions are bring your own drinks for guests 21 and over. We provide cups and openers. Nothing is sold on site.

Tell us more than 48 hours before it starts and we will give you a full credit toward another date. The credit does not expire. Inside 48 hours, or if you miss the session, we can't offer a credit, and we don't give cash refunds. How credits work

No. The horses are part of the setting. Any time with them, like the optional walk-through, is guided by our team.
